“For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” Galatians 5:14
It’s shocking, but true: only 31% of Americans can name eight of their neighbors.
Even fewer know basic facts about them, and just half of that have had a meaningful conversation with a neighbor.
Yet Galatians 5:14 tells us that loving our neighbor isn’t just a suggestion– it sums up the entire law of God. So how is it possible that those of us who follow Jesus often know just as little about the people around us as anyone else?
If the love of Christ has changed us, shouldn’t that show up in how we treat the person next door?
Loving your neighbor doesn’t mean you need to be best friends with everyone on your street. However, it does mean taking the time to learn their names, offering help when needed, and praying for ways to bless them. Jesus made it clear that love isn’t just a feeling– it’s an action. And if we love God, we’ll love who He places in our path.
What if your street, your office, or your gym is part of your mission field?
Start simple. Say hello. Ask questions. When appropriate, offer prayer. Don’t underestimate what God can do through small acts of love and consistency.
Prayer:
“Lord, help me to love the people around me the way You love them. Open my eyes to see my neighbor– not as an obligation, but as an opportunity to share Jesus’ love. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.”
