THROWING GASOLINE ON THE FIRE

“But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

You don’t have to look far to see it. Scroll your phone, flip on the TV, or even stand in the checkout line at the grocery store—sexual images and messages are everywhere. It’s like pouring gasoline on a fire that’s already burning inside us.

But here’s the thing: the fire doesn’t come only from what’s around us. Even if you lived on a deserted island with no ads, no TV, no phone, you’d still wrestle with temptation. Because the battle doesn’t just happen “out there.” It happens in our hearts and minds.

That’s why the Bible makes this distinction: being tempted isn’t sin. Jesus Himself was tempted, yet He never sinned. The real danger comes when we toy with temptation—when we linger instead of running from it. The longer we play with fire, the more likely we are to get burned.

So, what do we do? Don’t try to muscle through temptation on your own. Run from it. It’s the most courageous way to respond. Call on the Lord to guard your thoughts and shift your focus. When you feel that pull, remember God’s promise: “He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

God always provides an exit. Whatever it looks like, His power gives us strength to resist.

The fire of temptation is real. But God’s power is greater. He offers freedom and a way of escape every single time.
