THE SEARCH FOR WHAT IS LOST – THE HEART OF JESUS PART ONE

“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one.”
Luke 15:8a

In the hustle of life, we often misplace things that are important to us—our keys, our phones, or something even more valuable like a piece of heirloom jewelry.

We panic, tear through the house, and search every corner, hoping to recover what’s been lost.

The woman in Jesus’ parable knows that feeling. She had lost something valuable, a silver coin, which could’ve represented a significant part of her savings. Her determination to search for that lost coin until she finds it is an image of God’s relentless pursuit of us when we’ve drifted away.

God doesn’t give up on us, no matter how far we’ve wandered or how lost we may feel. Like the woman who lights a lamp and sweeps her house in a diligent search, God is always working to bring us back into His fold. When something valuable is lost, the search intensifies. And here’s the beautiful part: just like the woman’s joy when she found her coin, there’s a celebration in heaven when one of us is found.

Many of us know what it’s like to feel spiritually lost—to feel distant from God, unsure of how to find our way back. But this parable reminds us that God is not distant or passive. He’s actively searching, pursuing, and calling us back to Him. The search is never in vain; once we’re found, all of heaven rejoices.

Take a moment today to reflect: If you’ve been feeling lost, know that God hasn’t stopped looking for you. He’s lighting the lamp, sweeping through the details of your life, and drawing you back to Him.

Will you allow yourself to be found?
