“Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.” Revelation 19:7

Destination weddings are hot! The exotic, romantic location and Pinterest boards filled with wedding details, design and décor ideas – today’s preoccupation with the wedding event seems to supersede the actual marriage. Did you know the Bible talks about the ultimate destination wedding in Revelation? The bride will be beautiful and the groom is perfect. And the setting? The setting will be literally out of this world!

  • The Groom is Jesus. Referred to multiple times as the “Lamb of God,” Jesus chose the name Lamb to highlight the fact that He paid the ultimate price for His bride – death on the cross for her sins (John 1:9).
  • The Bride is the Church. Now this does not refer to every member of every church, but rather those who have chosen to trust Christ as their Lord and Savior. This is the true church, those who have truly been saved (Matthew 7: 21-23).
  • The Location is Heaven. If this wedding feast occurs shortly before Jesus’ second coming, then obviously the church will have been raptured at some point before His return. The timing of this rapture continues to be debated, but Revelation 19:7-9, 14 is quite convincing biblical evidence that the church will be raptured to heaven shortly before Jesus’ second coming.

What about the guests? Who will be invited? John the Baptist will probably be one guest (John 3:29).  Others will surely be Old Testament saints. And how could the angels be left out as guest as well? No matter how the details play out, one things is certain – this wedding feast will be the event of a lifetime! You don’t want to be left off this list.  And for the followers of Jesus, the lamb of God, you will not be!
