Jesus Says We Are His Sheep

August 25, 2022

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” – John 10:27-28

So many of us today are dealing with incredible insecurities: fear and uncertainty about the future, anxiety, or a host of other personal struggles.

For followers of Jesus, however, I have great news! We can endure any trial and face our biggest fears with confidence by clinging to God and remembering His promises to us.

Jesus says that we are His sheep, and He is our Good Shepherd. A shepherd is responsible for taking care of his sheep, providing for them, and protecting them. Sheep also tend to wander off, and it’s the shepherd’s job to watch over them and guide them. They have to feed, water, and care for the flock.

Like sheep who are completely dependent upon their shepherd’s tender love and care, we are reliant on Jesus. Thankfully, Jesus promised to be our good Shepherd.

So, what does that mean?

  1. Jesus personally leads us in our lives.
Like a shepherd who guides his flock, Jesus will lead you wherever you need to go. He will watch over you and protect you. He cares for you.
  2. Jesus is our way to salvation.
He explains that through Him, we can be saved (vs 9). Jesus saves us from sin and death and eternal separation from God. We do not have to fear.
  3. Jesus laid down His life for us.
We can experience salvation through faith in Jesus because He died on the cross for our sins. His perfect life is the sacrifice for ours.
  4. Jesus gives us eternal security.
Jesus rose from the dead and now reigns in heaven. Because of His life, death, and resurrection, He grants His followers eternal security and peace. He says—look, there is nothing on this earth, there is no one on this earth who can ever snatch you out of My hands. You are safe and secure with Me for all eternity (John 10:28-29, my paraphrase).

Once you place your trust and faith in Jesus, there is nothing that can separate you from the love of the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ. You are eternally secure. You’re able to know His voice and experience His love and care. Are you in need of God’s love and care today?

Place your faith in Jesus Christ, and rest in the comfort of knowing Him as your good Shepherd.
