UNDERSTANDING THE SPIRITUAL WEAPONS AVAILABLE TO YOU

RFTH Team

Throughout the Christian journey, we are consistently reminded that our fight is not against flesh and blood but against the powers of darkness (Ephesians 6:12) referred to as spiritual warfare.

This spiritual warfare is an unseen battle, and, as such, it calls for spiritual weapons. God, in His infinite wisdom, has provided these weapons for us through His Word. And among the myriad of scriptures, the Psalms emerge as a powerful resource.

USING PSALMS AS SPlRITUAL WARFARE SCRIPTURES

The Book of Psalms has been a source of solace and strength for believers across centuries. But when viewed in the light of spiritual warfare, they transform into a divine armory, ready to equip believers in their fight against evil.

Consider Psalm 23, a passage that reassures us of God’s constant guidance and protection. Traditionally called the Shepherd Psalm, it invokes the image of a caring shepherd who looks after his flock, fending off fear and discouragement.

Another powerful weapon is Psalm 91. Filled with promises of divine protection, it reminds us that God is our refuge and fortress, and our deliverer.

Finally, Psalm 27 is a declaration of faith and confidence in God, even amidst adversaries and evildoers. The Psalmist’s determination to seek the Lord and dwell in His house is a firm declaration of faith, serving as a spiritual weapon by boosting our courage and conviction in the face of evil.

THE POWER OF SPIRITUAL WEAPONS IN OUR JOURNEY

Embracing the Psalms as spiritual warfare scriptures, we move from merely reading the scriptures to actively wielding them as weapons. Just as a soldier needs to know his weapons before going to battle.

Ephesians 6:17 encourages us to take “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Indeed, every word from the Bible can become a powerful weapon when used with faith.

But, as with any battle, there can be blind spots. In the heat of spiritual warfare, we can sometimes overlook persistent sin in our lives. These can become footholds for the enemy, but thankfully, the scriptures provide us with a way to address this. Psalm 139:23-24 is one such passage. By inviting God to search our hearts, we allow His light to shine on our blind spots, enabling God’s transforming power to work within us.

So, arm yourself with the Word of God, for the battle is fierce, but God’s weapons are divine.
