“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” – Hebrews 11:1
Have you seen this billboard sign? “Well, you have been asking me for a sign! – God.” I had to laugh the first time I saw it, because haven’t most of us, at one time or another, asked God for a sign? Just sky-write it or something! If I only had a sign, then I’d know what to do and get back on the right path!
Well, I hate to disappoint you, but that’s not how it usually works. Look at all those plagues in Egypt. All of them were “signs.” And yet, how did Pharaoh and the Egyptians respond? Their hearts simply got harder. What about all of Jesus’ miracles? People witnessed Jesus raise a man from the dead and all they could think about was how to get rid of Him. Again, so many “signs.” Yet, the majority of theses witnesses didn’t change. Their hearts just got harder and harder.
The same has been true throughout history; people’s hearts often don’t change because of a powerful sign or miracle. Miracles simply reveal if a person is hard-hearted toward God or if they have any inkling of faith.
Are you waiting for some sign or miracle to give you the “proof” you’re looking for to believe in God? Remember, “faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” The evidence for God’s existence is everywhere. What you have to decide is if you’ll be open-minded enough to see it, to see Him, and then choose to believe.
