WHAT DOES GOD SEE WHEN HE LOOKS AT US?

From a sermon by Bryant Wright, Founder

“Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

How do you measure someone’s worth?

Is it their bank account, social status, or how attractive they are? Let’s be honest—many of us do it without even realizing it. Our culture worships wealth, power, and looks. Entire careers are built on those things. From tech billionaires to actors on glossy magazine covers, the world celebrates those who appear successful by human standards.

But God doesn’t. God’s evaluation system is entirely different.

When God sent Samuel to anoint the next king of Israel, Samuel immediately assumed that Jesse’s oldest, tallest, strongest son was “the one.” But God interrupted that assumption with a powerful truth: He was looking at the heart.

That truth should bring us conviction. Why? Because conviction challenges us to look at others God’s way.

David wasn’t even invited to the lineup by his father. He was young, unimpressive, just a shepherd boy. But God saw something no one else did—a heart that would chase after Him. A heart full of courage, faith, and humility.

So, the question remains: How do you measure someone’s worth?

Look at the heart. That’s what God sees when He looks at us.
