WHAT DO YOU THINK?

April 05, 2024

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7

Cognitive theorists tell us that you and I generate over 6,000 thoughts per day.

Now, our thoughts may be true or false, gracious or offensive, pure or impure, admirable or shameful. Whatever our thoughts may be, many people believe that we’re not in control of what we think. After all, our thoughts just seem to randomly fly in and out.

But that is not true. We are in control of our thoughts and it’s vitally important that we do.

Why?

Because our thoughts shape us in ways we have only begun to imagine.

The Bible makes it clear that our thinking and our hearts are inseparably linked, and the condition of our hearts affects our thinking. This makes purposeful thinking very important.

Philippians 4:8 says, “…whatever is true…honorable…pure and admirable…think on these things.”

Ask yourself this question: “Would it bother me if anyone could read my mind?”

Well, guess what? God can read your mind. And He sees into your heart.

Thankfully, He can also help us control our thoughts.

What do you think?
