THE TEMPLE OF THE LIVING GOD

October 17, 2023

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

In the first century, the temple was a sacred building for worship and prayer for the Jewish people.

Inside that building was a place called the Holy of Holies. This inner sanctum symbolically represented the presence of God among the people.

Today, Christians understand that the presence of God is in a new temple: our bodies.

When we accept Christ and trust Him as Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit begins to dwell in each of us. Our bodies become the temple of the Living God.

That’s why we are called to take care of our bodies through fitness, diet, abstaining from sexual immorality, and harmful addictions that can damage the body. When we engage in sins such as gluttony, alcoholism, drug addiction, or sexual immorality – we aren’t showing respect for God or His temple. Even worse, we are joining God’s spirit to those sins.

How do you treat your body, God’s temple?

Do you need to make any changes to live a healthier lifestyle?

Ask God for the strength to commit to honor Him with your body.

And if you’ve never accepted Christ as Lord and Savior over your life, do so today. You, too, can have the Holy Spirit of the Living God dwell in your heart and life.

Then your body will become the temple of the Living God!
