IT STARTS WITH A STEP

“Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, He has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness.”

1 Kings 10:9

Why are we so obsessed with celebrity gossip, the latest trends and the hottest fashions? It’s because as a society, we are fascinated with fame, fortune, and wealth. It’s everywhere from films and magazines to reality TV shows portraying the “real lives” of today’s A-list icons. When the Queen of Sheba, a woman with wealth, fame and power traveled over a thousand miles to discuss the meaning of life with King Solomon, she ended up encountering God. It’s a powerful story that can be found in 1 Kings chapter 10. It’s worth the read.

What life lessons did she discover on her search for truth?

  1. No matter how much you have, without God something will be missing. We have two choices: to search out the truth or close our eyes to our need. Which will you choose?
  2. Recognize the source of your blessings. If you’ve been blessed with wealth, power, and success, do you give God credit? Are you leveraging your influence by pointing people to the One who gave you that power and influence? King Solomon did.
  3. Sometimes it takes a step of faith. The Queen of Sheba took a risk in her search for answers. What risks are you taking in the pursuit of truth?

When we begin a relationship with God in Jesus Christ, it’s greater than anything we could ever imagine: greater than fame, influence, wealth, power, education, or knowledge. It fills up something in our heart and life that nothing else can fill. So what about you? What steps are you taking to discover the answers to life’s tough questions? God is willing and waiting to answer; you need only to take the first step.
