GIVE THANKS IN EVERYTHING

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18

Life is a mixture of good, bad, and everything in between. Some days are filled with laughter and blessings you can’t stop counting. Other days bring heartache, disappointment, and problems that seem to multiply before your eyes.

That’s why the Bible’s command in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 can sound so hard to live out: “Give thanks in all circumstances.”

At first glance, that feels impossible. How can we be thankful when the car breaks down, the diagnosis comes back bad, or the marriage is hanging by a thread?

Here’s the key: God doesn’t say, “Give thanks for everything.” He says, “Give thanks in everything.” There’s a big difference.

We don’t have to be thankful for pain, loss, or injustice. But we can be thankful in the midst of it– because God’s grace never changes. His love doesn’t disappear when life gets messy. His presence doesn’t fade when things fall apart.

Grace is the undeserved favor of God given to us through faith in Jesus– not because we’ve earned it, but because He loves us in spite of ourselves. And once you really grasp that grace, it changes the way you see everything. Gratitude starts to flow even when life isn’t easy.

Think about it: if God never did another thing for you, what He’s already done through Jesus would still be more than enough. He’s forgiven your sins, adopted you into His family, and promised you eternal life. That’s reason enough to give thanks in every circumstance.

So this Thanksgiving season, take a moment to shift your focus. Instead of only thanking God for the obvious blessings, thank Him in the middle of the challenges. Thank Him for His presence when you feel alone. Thank Him for His strength when you’re weak.

You may not be thankful for every difficulty, but you can be thankful that Jesus walks with you through them all.
