From a sermon by Bryant Wright, Founder, RFTH
“For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as the Holy Spirit carried them along.”
2 Peter 1:20-21
In an age where skepticism and cynicism towards religious beliefs are common, engaging with the Bible analytically and thoughtfully is more important than ever.
Many young adults today express doubts about the Bible’s reliability and relevance, mirroring the broader societal shift towards secularism. However, exploring these doubts can lead to a more robust and resilient faith.
The Bible itself invites scrutiny and provides tools for accurately understanding its teachings. 2 Peter 1:20-21 emphasizes that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation, but from God through the Holy Spirit. This divine inspiration assures us that the Bible, while penned by flawed humans, conveys truth without error in its original message.
When discussing the Bible with skeptics or seekers, it’s crucial to acknowledge and respect their doubts. By engaging in honest dialogue, we can explore the historical and archaeological evidence supporting the Bible’s claims, discuss fulfilled prophecies, and examine the consistent themes of love and redemption throughout its narrative.
Encourage your friends and acquaintances to read the Bible for themselves, not just as a religious text but as a source of wisdom and insight into human nature. Most of all, to know God Himself, who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Offer to explore the Bible together. You might be surprised by the wisdom and meaning it brings!
