“…every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it, that it may bear more fruit.” – John 15:2
Are you a gardener?
Do you enjoy seeing things grow? If so, you understand the principle that a plant must be pruned in order to produce at its peak. When a plant is unhealthy, parts of it must be cut away.
Pruning is a reality in the garden, but it’s also a real part of human life. Because God loves us, sometimes He chooses to prune parts of our lives. This may come through the loss of a job, a loved one, or a move that takes us away from what’s comfortable. It may happen during a season of adversity.
What’s accomplished by all this pruning?
For the plant, it’s healthier and experiences fresh growth with more fruit.
For us humans, it’s the ability to rely more fully on God, our source of life, giving us the ability to live more spiritually secure and disciplined.
These times can be painful, but they allow us to live more fruitful lives.
And can know when God is pruning us, we always have hope.
Why?
Because He loves us enough to do whatever it takes for us to be more like Him.
