From a sermon by Bryant Wright, Founder
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” John 8:12
One night in a hotel room, I found myself stumbling around, feeling my way in the dark.
Navigating even a simple path can become a confusing challenge. This is a natural human experience, but also a perfect metaphor for the spiritual darkness that so often envelops our lives.
Jesus proclaimed Himself as the “Light of the World.” A bold declaration that He is not just a guide, but the guide who dispels all forms of darkness (John 8:12) and lights the way. Just as turning on a light in a dark room can suddenly make clear what was once hidden by shadows, following Jesus illuminates our path through life’s most profound uncertainties and fears.
In Psalm 119:105, God’s Word says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” Jesus is the Word of God, and He has given us the written word of God to light our way.
This truth speaks powerfully in today’s world, where achievements in technology and science have skyrocketed, yet spiritual and moral confusion is pandemic. Despite man’s advancements, there are still profound struggles with poverty, injustice, and disillusionment.
This is the darkness Jesus came to illuminate.
As followers of Christ, when we embrace His light, we see the world differently. Challenges remain, but we navigate them by His illumination. He reveals the world not just as it is but as it could be under the reign of God’s love and truth.
In accepting Jesus’ light, we find clarity, hope, and direction, guiding us through life’s moral and spiritual challenges.
He keeps us from stumbling in the dark.
Come back tomorrow as we dig into “The Audacity of Light.”
