“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” – Matthew 6:25
It has been said that only babies and fools never worry. Yes, there are understandable reasons for worry, but then Jesus comes along, and right out of the shoot, He commands His followers not to worry. Now, I realize for those of you who are extra conscientious, Jesus’ commands can actually add to your worries, because you don’t want to let Him down! Then you begin to worry about worrying! It can become a vicious cycle! But I have good news. Jesus gives us a cure for worry.
Jesus is not teaching that we’re not to think, not to be concerned with daily issues, or not be diligent or responsible. All of us have to give thought to how we manage money and daily relationships. He’s not teaching us to be airheads, but He is commanding us not to worry about God meeting our daily needs.
When we focus way too much on having too much for ourselves and our families, Jesus knows we are going to worry. His answer is to put our trust in Him. He will meet our needs. Here’s a good slogan: “Pray as if everything depends on God, then work as if everything depends on you.” When you trust God and work hard, you’ll find the cure for worry. It’s a good way to live!
