“Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way where I am going.” John 14:1-4
Yesterday, we brought up an outrageous claim that Jesus Christ said: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6).
He is the way to what? Take a closer look at the context of Scripture in examining Jesus’ claims. Right before He made this claim, Jesus said, “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way where I am going.” (John 14:1-4)
It’s pretty clear that Jesus is talking about heaven. When Jesus says, “I am the way,” He means that HE is The Way to heaven – to our Heavenly Father. Jesus also tells us, “You’ve got to decide if you’re going to trust Me. If you will follow Me, I will get you to where you need to go.” [My interpretation.] Wouldn’t everyone want to know the way to Heaven? Jesus tells us it is about trusting Him enough to follow Him to Heaven.
I realize these are important questions that will determine where you spend eternity. I also know they are hard to wrap your head around. But it’s not just your head. Your heart is involved, too. It’s only through repentant faith that you can do it. Do you have that faith? If you don’t, can you get it? You bet you can! Ask God to give you that kind of faith.
In Part 1, Jesus made what was and is considered to be an outrageous claim. In Part 2, we begin to understand where that claim is leading to, if we believe Him.
Stick with me tomorrow for Part 3. It only gets better!
