WAITING FOR CHRISTMAS

“The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you…” 2 Peter 3:9

Do you remember what it felt like as a child to wait for Christmas morning? You’d fall asleep convinced the night would never end. You’d wake up again and again, certain that it must finally be time—only to discover it was still dark. But then, at last, the morning came. And it was worth every second of waiting.

As we grow older, we realize Christmas was just our introduction to a lifetime of waiting. Waiting for direction. Waiting for healing. Waiting for answers. Waiting for God to move.

And if we’re honest, waiting is one of the hardest things we do.

But waiting is not new. The very first Christmas was built on waiting.

For centuries, the Jewish people waited for the Messiah. They lived with promise after promise handed down through the prophets. They believed God would send a Savior– yet years passed… when is He ever going to come?

Then one holy night in Bethlehem, God acted.

Christmas reminds us that what feels delayed to us is never late with God.

The Bible reassures us that God is not slow in keeping His promises, even when it feels that way. As Peter reminds us, the Lord is patient, longing for more people to turn to Him before Christ returns. What we see as delay is actually mercy. And just as God orchestrated every detail of Jesus’ first coming, He is guiding history toward that promised day when Christ will come again.

So as we wait—not only for answered prayers, but ultimately for Christ’s return—we wait with confidence. God has not lost sight of you. He hasn’t overlooked what you’re walking through. His patience has purpose, and His timing is always right.

This Christmas, let the promise of His return steady your heart. The God who fulfilled His word at Bethlehem will fulfill every promise still ahead.

So keep waiting with faith. Keep trusting with hope. Keep living with expectancy. The Savior who once stepped into our world will one day step back into it.

And when that day comes, every moment of waiting will make perfect sense in the light of His glory.
