“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast…” – Hebrews 6:19
There is an old saying: When a person loses hope, they begin to hope for death. Without hope, life is hard. It can become drudgery, misery, and even meaningless. One big reason that people lose hope is that they are putting their hope in the wrong things—beliefs that disappoint, dreams that don’t come true, people who ultimately let us down, all of which leads to disillusionment about life and, sadly, even about God.
The truth is that God never disappoints. Even though He gets blamed for a lot of the evil in the world, God always wants the best for us. He’s the One who won’t disappoint or walk away. God’s Word says in Jeremiah, “I know the plans I have for you…to give you hope and a future.” God always loves us. He’s always faithful. Even in death He gives us hope. In His Son Jesus, we see He understands the pain of death and He gives us the hope of victory over death as well. When we have hope over death, we can begin to live in hope every day – no matter the circumstances.
