STOP, DROP, AND THANK HIM

“Then Daniel praised the God of heaven and said: ‘Praise be to the name of God forever and ever; wisdom and power are his… He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.’”
Daniel 2:19–22

Have you ever faced a situation that felt impossible? The kind where you know that unless God steps in, nothing is going to change? That’s exactly where Daniel found himself.

King Nebuchadnezzar had a disturbing dream and demanded something no one had ever asked before– not only an interpretation, but a full report of the dream itself. The wise men of Babylon were trained in dream interpretation, but how could they describe a dream they hadn’t heard? It was an unreasonable request from a volatile king.

When they couldn’t deliver, the king issued a decree for all his advisors to be executed, including Daniel and his friends. While everyone else panicked, Daniel responded with remarkable calm and faith. He boldly asked the king for a little time, and then he gathered Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to pray for God’s mercy and intervention (Daniel 2:17–18).

Daniel believed God could reveal the dream. The question was, would He? Without God’s answer, they were as good as dead.

After seeking the Lord through the night, God revealed the mystery of the king’s dream to Daniel. Imagine the relief! God had saved their lives. But before Daniel rushed off to the palace with the news, he paused.

He stopped to thank God.

In Daniel 2:19–23, we find his prayer of praise– a beautiful moment where Daniel gives God all the credit for wisdom, power, and revelation. Daniel didn’t treat the answer like an escape hatch; he treated it as a reason to worship.

How often do we cry out to God in desperation, only to forget to thank Him when the answer comes? We move on to the next crisis so quickly that we skip the praise part. But gratitude honors God just as much as the request itself.

The next time God answers your prayer– whether in a big, miraculous way or through a quiet, ordinary blessing– pause and thank Him. Don’t rush past the praise.

Daniel didn’t—and neither should we.
