PRAISE GOD FOR WHO HE IS

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… All things were made through Him.” John 1:1,3

When we think about praising God, most of us picture worship through music—lifting our voices together, singing hymns and worship songs, gathered with the body of Christ. That is indeed a beautiful way to praise Him. We also praise God when we reflect on His attributes– His power, His holiness, His creativity, His eternality. But one of the most overlooked ways we can worship God is by praising Him for who He is as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The word “Trinity” never appears in Scripture, yet the truth of the Trinity is woven throughout the Bible from the very beginning. Many Christians associate the Trinity only with the New Testament—like at Jesus’ baptism, when God the Father spoke, the Son stood in the water, and the Holy Spirit descended like a dove (Matthew 3:13-17). But this three-in-one God is present in the very first chapter of the Bible.

In Genesis 1:1-3, we see God the Father creating, the Spirit of God hovering over the waters, and the Word of God speaking light into existence. There was no sun or stars yet—just the powerful spoken Word of Christ, the Light of the World. From the first moments of creation, we see one God in three Persons working in perfect unity.

This truth is beyond what our human minds can fully comprehend. How can God be one and yet three distinct Persons– Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? And yet, this mystery draws us to praise. A God small enough for us to fully grasp would not be worthy of our praise.

Then, John 1 opens with the same words: “In the beginning…” reminding us that Jesus, the eternal Word, was present before creation began. He took on flesh, walked among us, died for us, rose again, and now reigns at the Father’s right. And the Holy Spirit continues His work, convicting, guiding, teaching, and pointing to Christ.

When we worship God as one God in three persons, we acknowledge His greatness, His eternal nature, and His love displayed in creation, redemption, and His daily presence with us.

So today, take a moment to praise God, not just what He’s done for you, but who He is: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
