‘The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against His anointed, saying “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.”’ Psalm 2: 2-3
ARMAGEDDON: THE FINAL BATTLE
Armageddon – the apocalyptic final battle between good and evil. Doomsday theories are everywhere. Hollywood has even built an entire movie genre around this theme. Yet it’s the Bible that portrays the truth about Armageddon and this final climatic battle of earth. The term Armageddon comes from “Har-magedon” (Rev. 16:16) which references Mount Megiddo, meaning the “place of slaughter.” This strategic military position, located in modern-day Israel, will be the place of this ultimate battle between good and evil: between Jesus and the Antichrist.
By this time, the church will be gone and the Antichrist will have deceived the world into submission. Only then, will this climatic spiritual battle for Jerusalem and the salvation of Israel begin. While the majority of Jews have either walked away from their faith or refused to accept Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah, the prophet Zechariah speaks of a day when the people of Israel will call on God for help – and He will answer (Zech. 12:10-11).
The persecution under the Antichrist will be the catalyst for this change of heart and outcry to God in faith (Zech. 13:8-9). Only then, will Jesus the Messiah appear before Israel and all the world (Zech. 12:8-9; Rom. 11:25-26). This will be the day the Lord shifts the scales of power from evil to good. Jesus will return to save Israel not just from extermination but from their sins. It will be God’s ultimate show of grace.
Do you know the grace and power of salvation through Christ? Do you know the freedom of forgiveness of your sins? Don’t wait until the end of the age to wrestle with these questions; then it will be too late. Put your faith in Jesus today – the One who is the ultimate victor in the battle of good versus evil.
