Politics can be challenging to navigate, especially in today’s heated climate.
For Christians, it’s more than casting a vote; it’s a way of loving our neighbor and standing for what’s right. More importantly, our ultimate hope is in Christ, the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, yet we are called to be good citizens. God has ordained an important role for the government and its leaders.
Still, it can be tough to remember what’s most important in voting for a president because no candidate is perfect. We are all flawed, sinful human beings.
Here are significant characteristics we should look for:
Integrity. The president is called to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.
Responsibility. The president serves as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.
Judgment. The president has the power to grant pardons and the power, with the consent of the Senate, to make treaties and appoint ambassadors to represent the United States.
Discernment. The president appoints judges to the Supreme Court and numerous federal courts, which is a lasting legacy.
Wisdom. The president brings information and recommendations to Congress as he shall judge necessary and expedient.
The Constitution gives the complete job description of the presidency. You can read it in its entirety HERE.
Let’s pray and seek God’s will as to who is best qualified for the job.
And please vote — it’s a great privilege and responsibility.
