FAMILY MATTERS – DAY TWO: SEXUAL JOY OR SEXUAL FREEDOM?

September 25, 2025

Bryant Wright, Founder

“Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.”
Hebrews 13:4

Sexual freedom is hailed as the highest expression of self. It’s everywhere—in media, advertising, education, and even politics.

But when something becomes more important than God, it becomes an idol. And in modern America, sexual freedom is precisely that—an idol that promises happiness but often leaves behind guilt, brokenness, and shame.

Yet, God offers something far better: sexual joy. Not counterfeit pleasure, but true, lasting fulfillment—anchored in His design for marriage. Hebrews 13:4 is clear: marriage is to be honored by all, and sex is a sacred gift meant to be experienced within that covenant. When we try to redefine or remove the boundaries God placed around sex, we don’t find freedom—we find heartbreak.

Sex outside of God’s design—whether through pornography, cohabitation, or adultery—defiles the marriage bed. Like contaminating a water supply, even a single compromise can poison trust and intimacy. His boundaries are not to restrict us, but to bless us with His protection.

The good news? No matter your past, there is hope in Jesus. 1 Corinthians 6:11 says, “Such were some of you, but you were washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.” The same God who created sex offers grace, healing, and restoration. If you’ve been caught in the trap of sexual sin, run to Him. Confess. Repent. And let Him begin to rebuild what was broken.

If you’re single, trust God with your purity. If you’re married, guard your relationship with intentionality and honesty. God’s Spirit is ready to strengthen you, not shame you.

Sexual freedom may sound empowering, but it can be an idol that enslaves us. But sex, rooted in God’s design, can bring true joy and lasting fulfillment.

Is your family a little messed up? (And whose family isn’t?)
