“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'” – John 14:6
If we’re honest, as Christians, we have all struggled with our faith at one time or another. Here is an area that I have struggled with about the existence of God. Look at the first four words of the Bible, “In the beginning God…” In my human mind, I can’t grasp the concept of no beginning. I know that everything begins and ends, except God – He always has been, is, and always will be. That’s just hard to wrap your head around!
But let me tell you why the first four words of Genesis also enrich my faith. Look at John 1:1. Note the same beginning for the Gospel of John as you saw as the first words in the book of Genesis. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” But we also read verse 14 of John 1. “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Who is the Word? The Word is Jesus, and the only reason I can believe in an invisible God is Jesus. And when I struggle with doubts about the existence of God and deal with those unanswerable questions, like where did God come from? Or how could He always exist? I come back to Jesus. I look at His life, God in the flesh, and most of all, I look at the evidence of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. If Christ rose from the dead, any Biblical claims about God are possible. If He did not, the Bible says we Christians are just a bunch of fools.
My belief in God rises and falls with Jesus, His life, His death and His resurrection.
