What is your all-time favorite book?

Maybe you are like me and enjoy an in-depth biography. Or maybe, like my wife, you are always looking for an exciting novel. You might have enjoyed a comic book or detective series as a child. Now, a great biography of a great man or woman will inspire you. A great novel will intrigue you. Even poetry will arouse feelings and emotions within you.

But the Bible does something different. The Bible is living. It has the power to bring life.

Why? Because the Spirit of the Lord helps us focus on Jesus, who can literally give us eternal life. The Bible has a uniqueness that no other literature can match. The Word of God is “living and active.”

Both believers and unbelievers experience the Bible’s active nature. As believers, we spend time reading and studying the Bible, sometimes in the early hours of the day, and we are energized by it. Think of a time you have been in a worship service where a Spirit-filled preacher is preaching from God’s Word. These are times when we experience restoration and renewal of our faith.

For the unbeliever, when he or she hears scripture, it often leads to anger and resentment. While not a positive trait, it still is energy. It is active. Because the Word of God is always calling on a person to decide whether they will believe or not.

As a follower of Jesus, are you giving the Bible the chance to be active in your life? There is nothing better for a pastor to see than a church member with a well-worn Bible. What a picture of a spiritual blessing!

The Bible is worth getting up early for. It is worth listening to on your work commute. It is worth memorizing. It is worth finding a church where the Bible is preached and taught faithfully.

Pick up your copy of God’s Word and let it actively draw you closer to the Lord. Or if you haven’t given your life to Christ, let the Bible lead you to a personal relationship with Him.

What are you waiting for?
