“Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more." - 1 Thessalonians 4:1-2

Have you ever performed a task though not to the level of perfection and said to yourself, “That’s good enough!”? Or perhaps you had a parent or a coach or a supervisor that never seemed to be satisfied with what you had done. There can be frustration in those times, for sure, but that’s not the spirit in which Paul was encouraging the Christians in Thessalonica.

The Christian life is not an easy road to travel. In fact, it can be downright hard. But there is power within the believer in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit to persevere and continue successfully. The Son of God is our model and our example … we strive to be more and more like Him. The Holy Spirit enables and guides us in how to accomplish that. We will never be perfect like Jesus, but we must “run the race with endurance” with Him as our goal, seeking to always be better. In the passage above, Paul is exhorting and encouraging his friends to “excel still more” in their pursuit and obedience in Christ despite pressure and persecution from their peers and life around them. This is a positive boost … ”you can do it!” … unlike the devil promoting dissatisfaction, laziness or defeat. Sometimes we need that other person to cheer us on, assuring us they are on our side during the struggles we face.

I have a picture in my mind of that “cloud of witnesses” as described in Hebrews 12:1 as leaning over the balcony of heaven and shouting my name as I round another turn in the race of life. What a rush! My will and determination are bolstered even now just thinking about it!! The ministry of Right From The Heart seeks to do that as well. We want to be an encouragement to you with nuggets of God’s Truth to encourage your day. Our radio and television spots, devotionals and social media messages are specifically intended to spur the positive input God has for each of our lives.

Don’t forget to flip this scenario around. Allow the Lord to use YOU to brighten someone else’s day. Be available to the Holy Spirit’s leading and you may be surprised at how opportunities will arise. I am sure you will find that as you encourage someone along the way you may just discover the blessing becomes your own. Be encouraged today and excel still more!

In Christ,
