"For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope." - Romans 15:4

We hear a lot about hope lately. And rightly so, with the uncertainly of the COVID-19 pandemic throwing the world economy into a tailspin. Our offices have even closed temporarily, and our staff has been working remotely in an effort to practice social distancing - a word that has quickly become a part of our vocabulary. All of us have been affected in some way and it causes us to look for some kind of hope in the midst of all this unsettledness. Hope that the spread of the virus can be arrested. Hope that your job remains intact. Hope that your future will be secure. Hope. Hope. Hope.

The Scripture above reminds us that we must persevere in that hope. It will not necessarily be easy. We must “keep on keeping on” being wise and responsible, while not losing hope. We should also be reminded of the encouragement that Scripture gives … encouragement that has been preserved for us since the beginning of time. Take a moment to dwell of the very Word of the Sovereign God in the following verses: • Psalm 31:24 Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who hope in the Lord. • Psalm 119:116 Sustain me according to Your word, that I may live; and do not let me be ashamed of my hope. • Jeremiah 17:7 Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord. • Romans 5:2b-5 …we exult in hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. • Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. • Ephesians 4:6c [there is] one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.

I am praying for you today. I ask you to join me in praying for our national and world leaders for their wisdom and direction in this time of critical decision making. We are experiencing a time in our history like none other, but when our hope is in Jesus Christ, we can trust Him to sustain us for all eternity, as He is still in control. A well-placed faith and hope in Jesus secures our tomorrow, no matter what, and that is a great encouragement.

In Christ,
