Is that verse not a beautiful picture? Not only is the Lord God our defending protector and a magnificent splendor to our being but He is supremely tender toward us … lifting our head toward Himself. I visualize my head bowing toward my chest … discouraged, weary or tired … and the Mighty Hand of Jesus reaching down and tilting my face upward toward Himself. “Focus on Me,” He seems to say, “Keep your eyes on Me, not on your circumstances.”
This simple verse of scripture really packs a punch. It is God’s Word to us. It inspires us; it encourages us; it strengthens us. First of all, by trusting in Him, we are promised to be defended by Him. He is our shield deflecting the fiery darts of the evil one allowing us to advance against the challenges of life. Ephesians 6 describes this armor as the shield of faith; that tool that represents our trust.
The Lord is also our glory. Glory is honor, exaltation and achievement. We are made in the image of God for His own pleasure. We are to honor Him in who we are and what He has made us to be. That honor or glory is often expressed in our countenance, even in our eyes. Right From The Heart reaches into places around the world where the eyes of the people … their countenance and their expressions … are dark and without joy. They are missing the glory of the Lord in their very soul. Oh, to share the Good News of Jesus with them!
But then, He is also the “lifter of our head.” Wow. Jesus Christ is there … always, regardless of our trial, tribulation or circumstance. What a comfort!
Sometimes our call is to turn our own “misery into ministry.” Our command is to serve the least, the last and the lost in pointing them to a Savior. That task will not end until Jesus returns defending the believer, glorifying them with Him and lifting the head of the persecuted. Right From The Heart is committed to extending that cup of cold water of the gospel to a very thirsty world. I hope you will join us in that effort by your prayers and your support.
May these words of the psalmist encourage you to embrace Jesus … your shield, glory and lifter of your head … as Lord of your life. May the Lord bless you this very day.
