From the desk of Bryant Wright

How is your to-do list looking today? Usually, I will set my priorities for the day first thing in the morning often with great anticipation of taking on the challenges in store. Many times I achieve my goals, but sometimes I don't quite get everything done and have to "carry over" some of those items on my list. I am sure you would agree with me that life just doesn't let up and our perseverance is tested often.

The scripture above is a very simple declaration, but profound in its application. Here the psalmist, probably David, is vowing to find a place for the Ark of the Covenant to permanently reside. The Ark of the Covenant represented the very Presence of the Lord to the people, so perhaps a temple could be built for a permanent place of worship. We know that Solomon, David's son, did indeed build a magnificent temple to honor the Lord, a dwelling place for the Ark of the Covenant.

But eventually the temple was destroyed and the Messiah, Jesus Christ, establishes a new covenant with us by His sacrifice on that torturous Cross. The Holy Spirit now resides in the dwelling place, the heart, of every one who professes faith in the Incarnate Father God, that person of Jesus Christ.

To-do lists come and go. But perhaps the most important daily discipline any of us could ever establish in our lives is to make a place in our hearts, a dwelling place, for the Creator of this Universe to reside. If we ask God for the hunger to know Him and for the desire to spend time with Him each morning before we begin the day, we will have done well. This is a great way to orient and align our life with the proper priority ... that of keeping Jesus Christ first and foremost in all that we do. It is then we will discover the promise of Lamentations 3 ... His lovingkindness will never cease, His compassions will never fail for they are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness!

Right From The Heart seeks to proclaim this promising and encouraging message to a busy, busy world. Thank you for taking time out of your schedule to participate with us even if just listening to a spot, downloading a devotion or pointing a friend to our website at RightFromTheHeart.org for other resources. Find a dwelling place for the Savior in your heart of hearts ... a place of permanent residence ... before slumber comes tonight!
