What If They Haven’t Heard?

November 26, 2010

“He who hast the Son, Jesus, has life, eternal life. He who does not have the Son does not have eternal life.” – 1 John 5:12

Here is a tough objection to Christianity we must deal with when discussing our faith with skeptical friends: What happens to those who die without ever really hearing of the salvation found in Christ? It is a difficult question to answer, but Jesus said this, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Me.” Couldn’t be clearer. Because of that, the church is given a mandate; we’re to take the gospel to every tribe and nation.

But what about those who never have a chance to hear because the church simply has not completed its job yet? The Bible says the person that has never been able to hear of Jesus is still going to be responsible for responding to God with the natural revelation of God that they have received (Romans 1:20). Now how God does this, I don’t know. Yet we know that God, who has sacrificed His Son for our salvation, wants us to receive that salvation. And He is going to be fair, and just, and loving. We must trust Him to make the right decision in regards to those who have never heard. He will do the right thing.

But for you – you have heard. And those who have heard are without excuse. Be sure you choose Jesus – the only way to God.
