“Then the king commanded, and they quarried great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with cut stones. So Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders and the Gebalites cut them, and prepared the timbers and the stones to build the house.” – 1 Kings 5:17-18
“I know a sure-fire way to kill a project that I don’t want to do,” the businessman bragged. “All I have to do is ask for funding.” Many of you can relate to that. Isn’t it aggravating to be given an assignment, but not be provided the tools, manpower, or money to get it done?
Solomon clearly understood that it was his role to see to it that the project (the building of the temple) had the funding and supplies it needed to be successful. He was an organizational genius in this time of peace in ancient Israel. But, he also knew exactly what he wanted to build and what it took to accomplish the goal. If you are a leader always remember that when you give someone the responsibility to do something, also give them the resources to get it done. There is an old management formula that states, RESPONSIBILITY = AUTHORITY. Authority can be interpreted as having the resources and clout to accomplish the assignment. And when we’ve been given a mission from God, through Him, the ultimate Authority, we also are given everything we need to carry it out.
