Shallow Christianity

“By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles?” – Matthew 17:6

A recent prime-time news broadcast featuring “teens and sex” interviewed a teenager who was sexually active with no plans to change. They showed her singing in her church choir. Her Christian parents were obviously concerned. So, the reporter asked her, “You’re pretty religious, right?” She said, “Yeah.” The reporter replied, “Well then how do you reconcile your being very religious with all your sexual activity?” She said, “Well, sometimes it’s tough, but I always keep those things separate.” I thought to myself, “This is the major problem in the American church today.” A lot of people claim to be Christian and live like they’re not. And this is the reason hypocrisy is the number one reason people stay away from the church.

Hey Christians, if you’re going to claim to be one, don’t live in a way that screams just the opposite. And if you have been living that way, ask God’s forgiveness and the forgiveness of people you’ve wronged and get it right. The church already has so much hypocrisy. Don’t be one that adds to it.
