The Big Bear Solar Observatory houses the worldâ€™s largest telescope and it is producing exciting new images of space. Scientists are seeing new galaxies and their excitement is contagious, because thereâ€™s so much more to know and explore! But, how do these new discoveries affect our view of God? It reminds us that science, in most cases, is a friend of God in explaining and unveiling the incredible greatness and stories of Godâ€™s creation.
Do we ever need to fear science? Absolutely â€“ when science makes itself God â€“ when science feels it is greater than Godâ€™s Word and Biblical morality. For science can produce great evil and destruction. Science gave us nuclear weapons, chemical warfare and who can forget Hitlerâ€™s Nazi doctorsâ€™ experiments on human beings?
Science is at its best in explaining the wonder of Godâ€™s creation and helping us use that creation for good. Science is at its worst when it makes itself out to be God â€“ unanswerable to God – and great evil can result. Science, like all of us needs to remember, â€œIn the beginning, GODâ€¦â€
