“…and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go.” – 2 Kings 2:3 NIV
As we discussed yesterday, King David’s first advice to his son, Solomon, was to “Be strong.” But that’s not all. He also encouraged his son to walk with the Lord. David’s concern for his son is not only that he be strong, but that he be a man of God, walk with God, obey the Word of God, and that he be encouraged by Scripture. Most of all, David wanted his son to be a man of God. So he gave Solomon God’s formula for success. And what is that? It is to obey the Word of God; by doing this, you will fulfill God’s destiny for your life.
As we look at this council of a father charging his son and we realize this could be a father’s council to any child – to be a person of God and to fulfill their destiny by understanding ultimate success. That means being in the will of God, doing the will of God, and doing what God has called you to be and do. Good advice for King David to give Solomon. And good advice for you to give your child.
