We are surrounded by living things. People, plants, fish, even single-cell organisms are alive. That these things are alive is acknowledged and accepted by most everyone. No big surprise. Right?
We forget that the Word of God, the Bible, is alive! When we read and listen to His Word, God does something supernaturally that speaks to our hearts, our wills, and our minds. As you read at the top of this devotion, Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” God speaks to us, reveals to us He knows our every thought. His Word convicts us of our sin and His Spirit gives us an inner “want-to” to get right with Him.
His Word is alive whether you read it, hear it, or speak it. So, next time we pick up a Bible, stand to hear it read, study, or quote a scripture, remember these aren’t just words. They’re living, breathing instructions from a living Lord and Savior, who is alive today, yesterday, and forever!
