Reality check! In the famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus gives us this reminder as to our responsibility as a Christ-follower. We are to be salt. Salt is an influencer. It enhances the flavor of food; it ‘seasons’ the palate. Salt is a preservative and is used to protect and retard decay. Salt even has certain healing qualities when used appropriately.
What a beautiful picture of a Christian. We are to influence our very surroundings with the example of Christ. We are to flavor and season our relationships and conversations with the very character of Jesus. And we can even share the solution of Jesus Christ to heal and redirect someone headed for the ultimate decay … that of an eternal hell.
But what happens so often is our salt, our Christian witness, becomes tasteless. We lose our fervor and passion for Who Jesus is … what He has done for us on the cross … and the victory we have gained by His resurrection! Tasteless and lukewarm is not what an effective Christian should be. Neither is that pleasing to our Lord.
Right From The Heart seeks to be salt as well to a bland and decaying world. Check out our website at www.rightfromtheheart.org and subscribe to our daily devotionals or view a biblically based sermon or television spot. We all need encouragement and hope as we face the challenges of life. May each one of us recommit to the example of Jesus to be the “Christ-influencer” He intends us to be. Please pass the salt…..
