WITH JESUS, WE’RE ON A IRREVERSIBLE JOURNEY

March 10, 2016

“I don’t want you to forget, dear brothers and sisters, about our ancestors in the wilderness long ago. All of them were guided by a cloud that moved ahead of them, and all of them walked through the sea on dry ground. In the cloud and in the sea, all of them were baptized as followers of Moses.” – 1 Corinthians 10:1,2 NLT

There is an interesting passage in the book of Exodus commenting on the actions of the Israelis after Passover. It says, “After the Passover Lamb…saved their life, they were led to freedom. Then they demonstrated their faith by walking through the sea.” In a way, their obedience was like their baptism, just like the baptism of a new believer in Jesus Christ. God was saying to Israel – as He was saying to the early Christian church – “Look, once you take that first step, there’s no going back!” Once God brought the waters of the sea together again, there was no going back to slavery in Egypt. They had to walk forward on their journey of faith. And guess what? They made it to the other side – because of their faith!

The same is true when we accept Christ. We are then to be baptized as a testimony of our faith in Christ. When we enter those waters of faith, there’s no going back! There’s no going back to the days before we knew Christ; we’re now on an irreversible journey that follows Jesus to the ultimate Promised Land!
