THERE’S NO GOING BACK!

September 28, 2017

“I don’t want you to forget, dear brothers and sisters, about our ancestors in the wilderness long ago. All of them were guided by a cloud that moved ahead of them, and all of them walked through the sea on dry ground. In the cloud and in the sea, all of them were baptized as followers of Moses. 3 All of them ate the same spiritual food, and all of them drank the same spiritual water. For they drank from the spiritual rock that traveled with them, and that rock was Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 10:1-4

Do you ever think about your journey of faith? Did you ever consider that your own present day journey can be directly related to the Old Testament? In the book of Exodus, there is a passage referring to the actions of the Israelis after Passover. It says, “After the Passover Lamb…saved their life, they were led to freedom. Then they demonstrated their faith by walking through the sea.” In a way, their obedience was like their baptism, just like the baptism of a new believer in Jesus Christ. God was saying to Israel (as He was saying in our scripture reference to the early Christian church), “Look, once you take that first step, there’s no going back!” Once God brought the waters of the sea together again, there was no going back to slavery in Egypt. They had to walk forward on their journey of faith.

The same is true when we accept Christ. We are then to be baptized as a testimony of our faith in Christ. When we enter those waters, there’s no going back! There’s no going back to the days before we knew Christ; we’re now on an irreversible journey that follows Jesus to the ultimate Promised Land!
