Years ago, one of my high school friends became close friends with one of President Gerald Ford’s sons. One weekend, the President’s son invited my friend to the White House. When they arrived, the guards simply waved the pair right on through, without any challenge or investigation. My friend walked right into the White House and, once again, the guards didn’t stop him. He walked right to the entry of the Oval Office. The guards still didn’t stop him. In fact, the President got up out of his seat, hugged his son, then introduced himself to my friend from high school. “Glad to see ya!” my friend was greeted by the most powerful man in the world.
Now, if my friend had dropped by the White House a couple of weeks later alone, the Secret Service agents would not have been quite so accommodating. He explained, “The only reason I got in was that I knew the son of the President. That’s the only way! I wasn’t qualified. I had no reason at all to be there. But I knew the President’s son.”
And that’s how it is with eternal life. It has nothing to do with good works. It’s all about knowing the Son. Know the Son and we get to know our Heavenly Father. Know the Son and when death comes, walk right into heaven. What a joy that will be.
