Asking God for Wisdom

December 29, 2022

“So give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people to discern between good and evil.” – 1 Kings 3:9

As kids, we used to let our imaginations and dreams run wild.

Do you remember asking the question, “If you could make one wish, what would it be?”

I would often stay quiet while others responded with answers like, “lots of money, a big house, or a motorcycle.” When it was my turn to answer, I’d always ask for unlimited wishes! I thought I was so smart at the time, but looking back, it simply revealed the incredible selfishness of a young boy’s heart.

Years ago, God gave Israel’s young King Solomon a free wish. He could ask for anything, and God would do it.

What an offer! Can you imagine? Out of everything in the world that Solomon could have asked for: wealth, power, status … the list could go on, Solomon chose “wisdom to lead and discernment between good and evil.”

This answer showed great maturity and perspective beyond Solomon’s years, and God was pleased.

So God granted Solomon’s wish and blessed him with incredible wealth and a long life.

Asking God for wisdom is a wise request indeed, for so often, with wisdom comes great success and the respect of others. The world is drawn to people who are wise.

Remember, God and His Word are the best sources of wisdom. How might your life change for the better if you focused on pursuing wisdom in 2023 rather than wealth, status, or relationships?
