"But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago." - Romans 3:21 NLT

Man’s Biggest Problem

What is man’s biggest problem? Some say, “It’s a lack of education.” Education is vitally important, for when education is not available mankind suffers greatly. But that’s not the biggest problem.

Others say, “Well, it is poverty or man’s environmental surroundings. “That’s where the biggest problems lie. Poverty is a huge mountain to overcome, yet the wealthy are also eaten up with greed, lust, materialism, divorce, dysfunctional families, emptiness, and on and on.

Others would say, “It is really prejudice. It’s racism, hatred or contempt for our fellowman.” No doubt, this is a huge problem all over the world. Prejudice certainly has a negative impact on the world in which we live, but it is not our major problem.

Still others would say our major problem is religion. Now that we have moved into the 21st century with Islamic terrorism being the greatest threat when it comes to war, you could make the case that religion is the cause of so many problems in our world. Yet, it really is not the major problem.

So what is it? Man’s major problem is sin. Now, you may be saying to yourself, “I knew it! Those Baptist preachers, that’s all they talk about. Putting that guilt on folks, always talking about sin.” I know some of you think we probably gather and vote on all the sins we must most preach on. But that is not the case. This is what the Word of God says. In Romans 1:18- 3:23, the Word of God is very clear that man’s major problem is sin. Read it for yourself.

Here’s the good news for all of us sinners. The person of Jesus Christ is the only one who ever lived without sin! God’s Word tells us, “God shows His love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

So what is the biggest problem of man? It is our sinfulness. The solution to our problem? It is Jesus. He paid the incredible price to pay the penalty for our sin and in the process, offers forgiveness when we repent and believe who He is and what He has done. When we do, we receive the righteousness of God – not because of what we have done but because of who Jesus is and what Jesus has done. Do you get it? This is the good news of the gospel. Good News for man’s biggest problem.
