THE FIRST STEP IS OFTEN THE HARDEST

“…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith…” – Hebrews 12:1-2

So much is said about going the extra mile…and that’s a good thing. In fact, Jesus Christ taught on this idea of going the extra mile in service to others. However, it’s easy to often overlook the importance of going the first mile. Joggers know that in training, it’s not always the third or fourth mile that is the toughest but rather the first mile. Just getting started can sometimes be the biggest hurdle.

How do you start your day? You probably have a whole list of things that need to be accomplished. Sometimes there is so much to do that we become overwhelmed and don’t know where to start. Other times we jump over some very important priorities, knowing there are so many other items on our ‘to do’ list.

If you need some advice on how to get each day started on the right foot, begin by quietly spending a few moments reading scripture and in prayer.  You’ll find the rest of the day to be much easier to navigate.

Remember, whether you are training for a big road race or simply for the daily race of life, you can’t go the “extra mile” until you’ve started on the first one.

What do you need to get started in your life? Whether big or small, ask God for the strength to take that first step.
