"Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me." But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' "In tithes and offerings." - Malachi 3:8 NIV

Are You A Robber?

Imagine a dark scene for a moment. After collecting the weekly offerings, the deacons at your church are taking the money into the office when a man sticks a gun in their faces and steals the money. How would you react to something like this? I know how you’d respond; you would be absolutely appalled! You’d be outraged! “How could anyone rob God and rob the church like that?”

Here is the terrible truth to this story. The fact is that most of you reading these words rob God every single week! Now you don’t pull a gun or steal the church safe. You’re probably not skilled as a safe cracker, but you rob God just as certainly as if you hacked in to the church’s bank records and transferred the funds to your private Swiss account. How can I say that about you? I don’t. God’s Word does. If we do not bring our tithes (10% of our income) and offerings to the Lord, then we’re robbing God. It is as simple as that. God’s law about tithing is just as clear as man’s laws about stealing. You might never even think about breaking man’s laws on stealing; shouldn’t you show the same respect for God’s laws? There’s good news from God when we do:

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the LORD Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. Malachi 3:10
