"...do not imitate what is evil, but what is good." - 3 John 1:11
Have you thought about the current epidemic we face as parents in this generation? There is more violence, sex, and immorality bombarding a child's intellect than ever. Look at the results: We see children committing vicious murders, including killing their classmates, with little regard for their actions. Obviously, they are conditioned by what they see on TV and in the movies.
Do you remember George Orwell's book, 1984? When it came out in 1949, the world was shocked because he predicted that people would go to the movies and laugh at people being killed. That prediction has become reality. It's called "the numbing of America."
There is a remedy. As a parent, you can teach your children to make decisions based on a formula - WWJD - What Would Jesus Do? Can you think of any wrong your child might learn by doing this?
WWJD? The Bible shows us. Teach it to your child as a formula for learning right from wrong.

Violent crime among juveniles is actually way down over the past ten years or so. What does that mean? - Erik

This devotion immediately brought to mind the story in the news of the high school girls who made the pact to get pregnant and raise their children together. They certainly would have benefitted from some thought of WWJD. But how would they know to give any thought to WWJD unless their parents or some other caring person talked to them about Jesus and God and how the Bible tells us the best way to live? Maybe some good can come of this situation because it is so extreme that it gets the attention of society. But then again, we live in a society that has those who are fiercely in opposition to traditional marriage. These girls have just put together one scenario of society without the boundaries of traditional marriage. WWJD? I keep wondering what He would say to those girls. "Go and sin no more"? And, "Train up a child in the way he (she) should go, and when he (she) is old he (she) will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6) So many good words in the Bible and so often neglected. Thank you RFTH for making better known the good words. - Janice
