Taking Care Of Our Bodies
"...your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit." - 1 Corinthians 6:19
In the seventies and early eighties, a new craze began to sweep the nation. It was called the fitness craze. The number of joggers went from thousands of oddballs to millions dashing across the landscape of America. That was a good thing, for taking care of our bodies is an important spiritual principle.
Think about the most common ways people abuse their bodies--smoking, alcohol and drug abuse, lack of regular exercise, and of course, over and under-eating. One thing about over-eating and under-eating is it is evident to all. Certainly, preachers who rail against the evils of alcohol while standing there so fat and out of shape that they make a hog look petite, are a living display of hypocrisy; gluttony is just as real a sin as drunkenness. Today I urge you to make a decision. Get in shape. Take care of your body. It's an important spiritual discipline.
