Financial Security Jan 08 2008
"Everything in the heavens and earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom." - 1 Chronicles 29:11 (TLB)
There is a ton of financial insecurity today. When the economy is good, people worry it may go in the tank. When it's bad, pessimism reigns. All this adds up to a lot of financial insecurity, especially after the holidays when bills come due.
There is one key to financial security: understanding that God owns it all. That's not easy to do. For many, it is the toughest decision to make. That's why Jesus said you must choose where you're going to put your trust -- in God, or in money.
Trusting in money in the form of a job, bank account, or investments--without God--always leads to worry, anxiety, and a spirit of greed or hoarding.
Trusting in God brings inner peace. His principles, as found in the Bible, teach us how to be good money managers. God promises to meet our needs--not our wants, but our needs.
In these days of financial insecurity, find your security in God, not money. Understand He owns it all; seek to manage His money His way. It's the key to financial security.

Yes, report it Nevermind"...understanding that God owns it all." That is a point that many believers actually miss. When they make an offering they think they are 'giving'. If you are a believer, you are not 'giving' anything...you are merely returning to God part of what is His...Everything you own is His, you (we) are just stewards of His things. Many years ago I thought I was 'giving this' and 'giving that'...what a false spiritual mindset that was!!

Yes, report it Nevermindhonest question:
What about the people that don't have their needs met? Who is this promise made to?

Yes, report it NevermindGod may own it all but the bill comes to MY house.

Yes, report it NevermindJeez James, that's a great point and while I realise what you said is true before you wrote it--it was great to see it spelled out in words. That's right...we own nothing--it's all God's.

Yes, report it NevermindD - good question. I don't see that promise in the Bible. I see it in the devotion, but not in the scripture quoted above. Anyone out there have a verse that can confirm what Wright is saying above?

Yes, report it NevermindGod does own all the money and as owner He chooses to let us decide what to do with it. Do we use it to meet basic needs, to indulge ourselves with luxury items or give it to help support His work? He knows what we do and our needs. I am always amazed if I want something and wait for God to provide how He does some awesome providing. Waiting for Him to provide can free up funds to give for His needs in the world. I certainly am not perfect at doing this but I try.

Yes, report it NevermindAustin, one Bible verse that comes to mind is Philippians 4:19, that says:
And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Yes, report it NevermindAustin - another scripture passage confirming this is Matthew 6:31-33 "So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Yes, report it NevermindI must concur, God owns, and has everything, and everything belongs to Him. Our needs are met in good health, a sound mind, shelter, rainment, and kind friends in the time of need. God does not always give us financial blessings. My blessings also comes in the protection of my spouse, children, my home, etc, etc, I have bills, and as long as we live they are going to be there. Howbeit; if I do what is right, and I am a good steward of what God has already given, every thing else will fall into place, spiritually, financially, and physically. Moreover; this is my belief, I serve such a magnanimous, and benevolent God that not only will He supply my needs according to His riches, but; every now, and then, He will give me some of my wants as well. Glory to His precious name. Lastly, may all your dreams be crystalized in 2008 is my prayer. Peace, and blessings to all....

Yes, report it NevermindEverything happens for a reason. A very true statement, in deed. I am a living testimony each and every day of how God speaks and teaches us. The real question is, are we listening?

Yes, report it NevermindYou know if there's one statement that I'm really sick of, one statement that I could go my whole life without ever hearing again, it has to be: "everything happen for a reason." That's not true. The truth is, nothing happens for a reason. Please please please stop thinking this way. It will ruin your life.

Yes, report it NevermindErik,
are you telling me there's not even a reason you replied?

Yes, report it NevermindI'm obviously not talking about the realm of human action. Although our free will there is debatable. I'm saying stuff that happens happens. That's it. "Everything happens for a reason." It's a pernicious and sickening lie. It just sounds good. People just like saying it.

Yes, report it NevermindEric
You have a negative comment fore everything. You dont believe there is a reason for everything read Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. You still have ignored my question to you, I wish you would answer me. Are you saved, alot of people want to know so we can know how to pray for you.

Yes, report it NevermindErik, I think if you really tried to defend your position that things happen with absolutely no reason behind them - you'd soon find it to be a pretty foolish thought. And you are hardly being honest with yourself if you look for reason while at the same time pre-supposing that God doesn't exist. Without reason there is no meaning. Surely you don't think there is no meaning to life? That we are all just the product of time, chance, and matter?

Yes, report it NevermindAustin I appreciate your thoughtful comments, but I think you are starting from a false premise. Is there a "meaning" to life? Maybe, maybe not. Not for me to say. What I am saying is that the reason stuff happens is because of the laws of physics, not some mysterious force that likes to play little tricks on us.
Lost your car keys? Everything happens for a reason. Slip and break your arm? Everything happens for a reason? A child dies in a car accident? Everything happens for a reason.

Yes, report it NevermindErik, how can you be so dismissive about the ultimate question in life - does it mean anything? "Maybe, maybe not"
I know what you feel when you say that because I used to wonder the same thing, but I was never so flippant. I think if you really think about that question honestly you will arrive at a resounding yes. To address the examples you've given - yes those occurrances have a reason. The fact that we may not know or understand all of the reasons doesn't mean they don't exist.
BTW - laws of physics don't actually cause anything to happen. Nothing happens "because" of the laws of anything. Scientific laws are just desciptions of what happens after a given cause. Laws don't address "why" - they can only address "how." How did the keys get lost - how did the arm break - how did the child die? Scientific laws can say "this is how" - they cannot say "why" in the true meaning of the word.
