Enemies In The Home Oct 17 2007
"...so that there will not be among you a man or a woman or family or tribe whose heart turns away today from the Lord our God..." - Deuteronomy 29:18
There are many enemies within the home seeking to destroy the family. Let me share a few:
Busyness. Everyone is over-committed, mostly through workaholism and activity-itus. This is true for all ages with our over-organized children's activities.
Lack of spiritual and moral leadership by the father. Approximately 34% of all births in the U.S. are to single moms. Even in some families that have a dad, he's often absent or practically non-existent.
Negative influence of media and technology. Kids spend more time with the TV than they do with their parents, and its influence can be overwhelmingly negative. It's a substitute for family communication. Internet pornography is devastating marriages and perverting how some men view women.
Parents, a vibrant relationship with God through Jesus Christ is the best way to battle the many enemies within the home.

Yes, report it NevermindThank you for the many important points in this devotion. The best gift we can give our children is to teach them of the love of Jesus Christ. No matter what happens in their lives, Jesus will always be there for them. Nothing else will last for them like this love. Relationships may falter, money may come and go, their health may fail, but they will always have the comfort of Christ. More importantly, nothing that happens on this earth compares with the everlasting life we will have in Christ. None of us are perfect parents, but we can give our children the perfect gift.

Yes, report it NevermindThis devotion reveals the names of some of the generals in the army warring against the family. General Busyness, General Lacko'Leadership and General Media Madness. They conquer many but there is One whom they can not conquer for He has overcome the world which they try to claim as their own. Romans 8:37 says that we are more than conquers Through Him and Romans 8:38 says that Nothing shall separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:38 reiterates the message of Melanie's comment.

Yes, report it NevermindI am so thankful for these daily devotionals. I look forward to waking up and reading them everymorning as I am pouring my first cup of coffee. It seems more times than not the devotional of the day is a message from God of what I am seeing in my life. This devotional hits especially close to home as we are feeling the burn out and perpetual fatigue of two careers, two children, sports and volunteer functions.

Yes, report it NevermindI agree absolutely that there are enemies in the home.I strongly agree that it is an ugly case of activity-itus in the first degree. An over-committed spouse who selfishly abandons his spouse for church work and other related activites is setting him or herself up to allow the enemy to creep in unaware. The Bible say husband love your wife as you so love the church. Wife... reverence your husband. Not love your work as you love the church. This behaviour is one of the biggest enemies in the home wife v.husband v.wife, where it becomes a blatant and willful abandondment and disregard of affection and attention as well. Thats one of the biggest enemy in the home as well.
