Emptiness Aug 25 2008
"The conclusion, when all is heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person." - Ecclesiastes 12:13
Do you ever feel like you've done it all? Success, wealth, pleasure, thrills and yet you feel empty inside? Solomon, the ancient king of Israel, was such a man. He had extraordinary success and wealth, incredible intellect, more women and sex than Wilt Chamberlain, and yet it all became meaningless to him. He felt so empty inside because he turned his back on God to pursue all that he wanted for himself.
Solomon was a classic example of a good man who started strong, but turned wrong and wound up empty.

Yes, report it NevermindThis devotion really speaks to me. In the past this was definatley me. I worried more about the car I drove, the house I lived in, keeping up with the jones, etc... and thought very little of life and the big picture. However, thanks to my wife and a pastor that engages me every time he speaks, my thoughts, actions and inner being are transfroming into a different person. I am grateful for those people in my life that have allowed me to focus on the things that matter and not get stuck in the muck of every day life.

Yes, report it NevermindYes, I have felt that emptiness. I remember a day when all was well, bills paid, children in school, husband happy with his work, I was even involved in the church and volunteet work with the school, yet there was something missing. I knew at that time, there must be something God is wanting me to do, but I was not doing it. A few years went by and my husband and I went on a mission trip. This was it...He has been calling us both to the mission field ever since and I can tell you the emptiness is gone. When you are doing what God has called you to do, it is the most satisfying and right feeling you will ever experience and you know this is GOD! Blessings!

Yes, report it NevermindWhy the comparison to Wilt Chamberlain? What is the signifigance of this--Is Wilt Chamberlain the only man in the 20th century with women and sex? What is the underlying meaning to this comparison?

Yes, report it NevermindMarsha, I presume the comparison between Solomon and Wilt Chamberlain came from Chamberlain's own boasting. In his book, he boasted to having sexual encounters with 20,000 women. I believe the comparison was made because of sheer numbers. I don't know of any other 20th century man who made these claims. I don't believe there is any underlying reason for this comparison.
