A Public Declaration Of Your Faith May 18 2012

"And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name." - Acts 22:16

Each individual has to make a major personal decision in life. That decision occurs when Christ is reaching out to you. And you then call on Him, and receive His grace, His forgiveness, His promise of a new life, and His promise of eternal life. Then He tells you to publicly identify with Christ so that the world will know that you are a follower. And the way you publicly identify with Christ is to be baptized.

I realize a lot of you were baptized as infants, but there’s nothing in the Bible about being baptized as an infant. It is an important tradition in many churches, but Jesus doesn’t teach anything about it. Jesus does teach that if we are going to begin to be His followers, then we should proclaim that identity through baptism. Baptism is kind of a Christian initiation ceremony. Just as a couple will publicly declare their love by having a wedding ceremony, a Christian will proclaim his or her affiliation with Christ through the baptismal ceremony. If you want to identify with Jesus, the way Christ commands us to do that is to be baptized as a testimony of our faith.

If you are a believer and you haven’t been baptized, I encourage you to take that step of faith soon. You’ll be amazed at the blessing you will feel as you share your faith in front of others. If you haven’t asked Jesus to come into your heart, there’s no better time than right now to take care of that, and the first step of faith is to follow Jesus and publicly profess your faith in Him.

I have kept my faith for 40 years n always let down by all the Christian God "Promises".

Since birth up till now I have never experience any of HIS BLESSING so how to continue to say that he is true.

Guys:

You should have seen the Washtubs in JFBC Gymnasium the Morning there were like 150 People Baptised. That was one of the Highlights of my life because one of my Best Friends(who had been dating the Second Ex) was Dunked that Morning.

Well about two years later when I was Hand-Feeding him and had agreed to put his Funeral together(with the Second-Exes Dad--Who is a Great Guy)I told Him:

"Buff you have made a Public Profession...I was there I saw it and you did it..."

I went up before he was Dunked...like he was Number Three or Something and shook his Hand. The Dunking Pastor's eyes went Wide-Open like: "You ain't suppossed to be in this!"

Somehow I knew when he took that Step regardless of the Bitterness or Envy or Hurt with Me?

He was going to be OK...

Now: I am not into Methodism so I don't want to hear about this and that. We Calmeenians could care less.

No it is not a Second Definite Work of Grace...But Jesus did it.

The Best Profession of Faith?

Is Baptism--I am sure if you want that? There are plenty of People on Staff at many Assemblies which will Accomodate you even in Private.

NG? I am at the Lowest Spot in Life--If He doesn't Save Us?

We are Lost. You have been let down by people and yourself--just like Me.

Jesus Never Gives Up.

Guys,

Thanks for sharing your comments, and I truly hope that things start to look up for you. But remember…you woke up this morning…and that gives you one more chance to have a good day or witness a miracle or show your love for God or eat ice cream or do whatever you want to do.

I spent 2 years undergoing treatment for a blood disorder, but I knew that I had good odds to make a full recovery so it never really got to me. It was the other patients that made all the difference. Many were under the age of 10, and most didn’t have more than a few months to live (they had terminal cancer). Despite all of this, they came in everyday with a smile (and kicked my butt in Pacman well we were in the waiting room haha). There was one little girl that was only 7, the doctors had told her that she only had a few more weeks, but she still kept smiling. I asked her once how she was always so happy and she told me “I woke up today.”

A public declaration of my faith isn’t about being baptized or getting married in a church, but it’s about all of the in between moments. Are you still smiling because you woke up this morning, despite whatever hard times you're going thru?

My Daughter had a Friend with a Blood Disorder...I would go to Scottish Rite to see him every Once in a While.

One time his Mom told me: "Look--My Son is very Ill and all I want is for the rest of the Family to take care of each other while I take care of Him..."

"I want them to stop calling me and asking me when I am coming Home and just learn to take care of themselves..."

I had to Smile at that...

He made it--Graduated with my Daughter.

I go to the Methodist church in Alpharetta. I thought it was a mighty intersting coincidence that I received the following message on infant baptism today. Just wanted to share the "other side" with you:

"We baptize a lot of babies at First Methodist Church. This coming Sunday we will baptize four children. Parents will step to the altar and promise to raise them in the Christian faith. Parents promise to steer clear of all evil and help their kids to do the same. Moms and Dads reaffirm their faith in Christ as Lord and Savior. The entire church promises to be a good example, so these children can find their way to Jesus simply by following us.

It's a powerful moment, because God in heaven is present in the sanctuary. The Living God is stirring within us, within parents and within the child, calling and leading us into a vital relationship with the risen Christ. The entire event shouts the love of God, which the child freely receives without ever having done anything to deserve it. God's love is a gift -- we call it grace. But, I worry a little when the service ends and the pictures are taken. I worry that parents will think that there is something magical about the ceremony, and there is not. There is nothing I add to the water that guarantees that the child will find life and peace and purpose.

Faith must be added to this recipe, or the bread never rises. Grace apart from faith is an empty ceremony. Faith apart from grace creates religious snobs. Grace and faith working together creates good men and women of God every time. So, parents, I promise that I will lead -- preach and serve this church so that it will be a place where your children may find Christ and come to faith. But you've got to keep your faith and your promise to bring them to church, or they will become lost sheep in a dangerous world."

I don't think that this should be an issue that divides us as disciples of Jesus Christ.

I have been baptized almost two years now and most confess that this is the most fulfilling thing I have ever done. I experience a more closer walk with the Lord because of my public declaration.

That is Covenant Faith and I am about to Squall. Both of my Babies were Baptised in that Manner. Would not have them Baptised any Other Way.

That is Covenant Theology and there is None Better.

I was Dunked of course--Lots of Good that Did.

You should see Bryant and Anne when they go in Front of the Altar and Place their Hands on those Little Ones...They have more fun with that than anything...

When they start getting a Little Upset?

Bryant will look like he is Scared to Death and Anne will just take the Child and Hold it.

They call it a Dedication or something like that...I've never been a really good at these Methodist Things but the Wesley's were Unbelievable Men.

He gave my Son his First Bible...

We have a Methodist Church in the hood but Grant? We are Baptists. And as Spurgeon Said"

"All that remains for me
Is but to love and sing,
And wait until the angels come
To bear me to the King."

But see I was dragged into this Baptist Thing by the Second Marriage but let me tell you this:

When Bryant and Anne first saw me after the Divorce? Both their Eyes went Wide-Open.

When I wanted to return to JFBC after a Year's Departure--Arms Wide Open.

When I spoke with Bryant about some things? Well: Those were Welcoming Statements as Well.

(Now he did not speak about the former wife I want to make that Clear--No Side-Taking as it always should be. No nothing like that...not even a Hint of It)

I approached Him--He did not Approach Me.

When I wanted to do some Extra Study at NOBTS? Nothing said.

When my Son came to live with me? Nothing but absolute Questioning and Questioning one of His Best Friends on Staff.

Which was Good for Me.

I also got my Fanny Whopped a little for still being so Hurt with the Second Ex.

(Not their Faults...)

But I will tell you This--JFBC is the Best Baptist Church I have even seen--I have never learned so Much or been so Blessed by Honesty and Integrity.

The Staff is absolutely Outstanding and they get their Fannies worked Off.

Bryant is the Best Preacher I have ever heard in my Life and Owe him a Debt of Gratitude.
